Car
Workington is a fairly remote town, based on the west coast of Cumbria. It’s around 50km south-west of the county town of Carlisle, and is accessible via the A66 from the east and the A596 from the north and south. The venue itself is located on High Street (A596), and is located just to the south of Workington.
Parking
On-site parking is available, but there is no guarantee of securing a space on your chosen test day. As an alternative, 86 Peter Street Car Park, situated around 650m west of the test centre, offers convenient free parking. To reach the test site from here, head east on Harrington Road, before turning right at the roundabout. Advance south on Cross Hill, before merging onto High Street and continuing on to the venue.
Further local parking options can be found on the relevant Parkopedia webpage, located here.
Bus
There are limited bus routes in operation around the town, but a suitable service can be taken from Workington Bus Station. Use the number 52 (Harrington) bus to take you from the station to directly outside the Royal George Pub, which is just a short, one-minute walk away from the test centre. If this connecting service isn’t available at the required time, you can head to High Street on foot. The journey is approximately one kilometre, and involves an eastbound walk-through Workington town centre, before heading south on King Street. At the end of the road, merge onto the A596 and progress south to the testing venue.
Train
Workington Train Station is situated on the western outskirts of the town, approximately 1.5km from the test site destination, and serves several locations across north-western England. Please note that if you opt to make your onwards journey to the test centre via bus, there will still be around 650m of walking distance required. The number 51 (Westfield) service will take you from the railway station to Hawkshead Avenue bus stop, positioned just south of High Street. Use Hawkshead Avenue and Newlands Lane to merge onto the A596, and head north to the testing venue.
If travelling to High Street from the station on foot, progress east on Oxford Street and Jane Street, then turn right to head south down King Street. Continue south on the A596, citing the venue on your left-hand side after roughly 100m.
Please be aware that given the bus route and subsequent walking distance involved, the time difference between navigating the onwards journey by bus and heading directly to the test site on foot is negligible.
